Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships – Academic A limited number of Academic scholarships are available for girls joining or transferring to Northwood College Senior School in Year 7 (11+). The College uses the North London Independent Girls' Schools' Consortium examination as part of its assessment, together with an interview and a school reference.

In the Sixth Form (16+), Academic Scholarships are awarded following the publication of GCSE results.

A limited number of scholarships for other subjects including Art and Design, Sport and Music may also be available as follows:

Scholarships – Music (Girls joining in Year 7 only)Auditions include performance of two contrasting pieces on main instrument (minimum standard Grade 4) and one piece on second instrument, sight reading on main instrument, aural tests and viva voce. Candidates need not have taken Grade 4 and those who consider that they can perform at this level should consider applying. There will be no written music papers. Potential of a candidate will be considered as well as achievement. Successful candidates will be expected to take a full and active part in the musical life of the College and to continue to make satisfactory progress.

Scholarships – Art and Design/Sport (Girls joining in Year 7 only) A candidate's potential will be considered as well as achievement. Assessment will be based partly on school references and partly on performance in an activity.

Art and Design: Girls will be required to undertake a 45 minute observational drawing test. If selected, shortlisted candidates will be asked to bring a portfolio of up to eight pieces of art, craft or design work showing their creative talents. This may include both two and three dimensional work.

Sport: Strength in Netball, Swimming or Tennis would be advantageous. Candidates should be competing at a minimum of club level but preferably at County or District level. Candidates will need to produce a Sports CV and they will be assessed when they come in for their Group interview.

Bursaries A limited number of means-tested Bursaries are available for girls joining Northwood College Senior School. Parents interested in being considered for one of these Bursaries should contact the Bursar's PA for an application form. Completed Bursary Forms with all supporting documentation must be received by the Bursar no later than noon on Friday 9 December 2011.

The value of a Bursary is related to income and financial resources. The maximum value of a Bursary is full fees. Parents will still have to pay for travel to and from school, uniform and examination fees.
