Our grounds and flowersNorthwood College is set within 14 acres of landscaped grounds. The buildings range from late Victorian through to the modern, purpose built Performing Arts Centre opened in March 2005. The college is continually evolving to create a dynamic and creative environment in which to learn and succeed. The grounds are maintained by a full time, qualified Head Gardener. The grounds have been subjected to an ongoing programme of improvements to reflect the profile of the college. In trying to create a pleasant working environment we have used a vast variety of specimen shrubs and trees. These range from Trachycarpus Fortunei (Chusan palm) and Liquidambar styraciflua (sweet gum tree) through to the Cercidiphyllum Japonicum (candy floss bush) and our own fruit bearing grape vines (Vitis Coignetiae). Where possible we use natural products such as organic feed and fertilizer and reduce the need to spray for weed control by using a mulching bark to suppress the weeds and to retain the moisture in the soil, reducing the need to water. New seating areas have been created around the college ensuring the grounds are enjoyed by visitors, staff and pupils. The creation of new lawns and planting schemes along with the addition of many trees contributes towards making Northwood College an enjoyable working environment.
