The Old Girls' Book Bursary

12th January 2012

This year the Northwood College Old Girls' Association was delighted to award the Old Girls' Book Bursary to Stephanie Milne, Eleanor Wood and Gabby Jeyatheswaran who each received £100 of book tokens for their excellent GCSE results. The Old Girls award this prize to a girl in Year 12, based on her exam results, and who is not a recipient of a Sixth Form Scholarship. As the GCSE results were so good last summer it was impossible to pick only one girl!

There is a long history of giving to the College, by the Old Girls, as Jean Gibson, former History teacher and author of 'The History of Northwood College', mentions in her book. "By 1924 there were 700 volumes and with books and money donated by Old Girls and Staff the Library continued to grow year by year".

Nowadays, in addition to the Book Bursary, the Old Girls have provided classroom recycling boxes and a recycling storage shed in the grounds of the College. They also supply prizes for various competitions and sponsor the annual Dragons' Den Competition, by paying for prizes and even providing a Dragon on occasion!

It is our hope that in the not too distant future the Northwood College Old Girls' Association will be able to fund a Scholarship or Bursary, specifically for a pupil who joins the Senior School from the Northwood College Junior School.
