Economics & Business Studies
Economics and Business Studies are introduced as new subjects in the Sixth Form. In Economics students enter a competition called 'Two Point Zero' run by the Bank of England. In Economics and Business Studies girls may choose to run a minienterprise. These are usually very successful and have included selling stationery, greetings cards, magic mugs and T-shirts. Students in both subjects attend lectures and study days in London and also take part in an Enterprise Day in Year 12.Girls enjoy the subjects because they can see how relevant they are and they perform well in public examinations.
In Economics, the girls study both macro and microeconomics in Year 12 and then Development Economics, Transport Economics and the Economics of the European Union in Year 13. In Business Studies, the girls study a wide range of topics including, marketing, accounting and finance and the management of people.
Many students go on to study Economics or Business related courses at prestigious universities including Warwick, LSE and Nottingham.
