The Mathematics Department at Northwood College comprises five full-time teachers and one part-time teacher. We teach the London Board Edexcel Syllabus. We achieve excellent results in GCSE, 'A' Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics Examinations.
Our students are entered for the National Maths Challenges in Years 7 and 8. Years 9 and 10 take the Intermediate Maths Challenge. Our Years 11, 12 and 13 take the Senior Maths Challenge. Some of our students in Year 9 attend the Royal Institute Mathematics Master Classes. Our enthusiastic Sixth Form assist willing and creative staff in the running of our weekly Mathematics Club. We also offer a weekly Surgery in support of our students.
All students have access to Autograph, which is a graph drawing and statistical package. They use spreadsheets in the course of their work. The Mathematics Department has a wide range of resources including interactive classboards, specialist software, including lesson starters and mental mathematics, as well as graphic calculators to help us to develop our students' mathematical skills.
It is our aim to encourage students to gain confidence in their skills and develop a love and enjoyment of our subject.
