Religious Studies
Religious Studies is a flourishing subject at Northwood College. We aim to teach students about a variety of faiths, develop skills of analysis and evaluation and encourage them to think for themselves. The subject is taught by enthusiastic and dedicated specialists. Lessons are interactive and include a wide variety of teaching activities. There is a wide and varied curriculum. Students learn about the six major world religions, moral issues and Philosophy.
In Years 7-9 students have 2 lessons per week. In Years 10 and 11 they can opt to take the GCSE course (OCR World Religions). There are also groups at AS/A2 level taking OCR Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics.
There are many extra curricular visits, including visits to York Minster and the Northwood Orthodox Synagogue. Students have also attended activities for Holocaust Memorial Day, took part in the Jewish London Experience and visited St Paul's Cathedral to hear Christians talk about moral issues.
