Curriculum

LOWER SCHOOL, Years 7, 8 and 9 (Key Stage 3) - for girls aged 11 to 14 years
In Year 7, all girls study English, two modern foreign languages chosen from French, German or Spanish, Classics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Art, Technology (including Design, Food, Graphics and Textiles), Information Technology, Music, Drama, Physical Education (Athletics, Hockey, Netball, Rounders, Swimming, Tennis and Gymnastics). Girls also follow short courses in Library Education, Health Education, Latin,

Current Affairs and Careers Guidance. During Year 7 for Mathematics, girls are divided into groups across the year according to ability and this also happens for Sciences in Year 9. They are taught in mixed ability classes in all other subjects.

Towards the end of Year 9 girls, advised by the staff, select the subjects they wish to study over the next two years in preparation for the General Certificate of Secondary Education.

UPPER SCHOOL, Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4) - for girls aged 14 to 16 years
In Years 10 and 11, all pupils study the core subjects which include English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, at least one Modern Foreign Language and either Biology, Chemistry, Physics (as separate GCSE subjects or a double GCSE in Core and Additional Science).

In addition, pupils choose 3 or 4 optional subjects from; Art and Design, Classical Civilisation, Drama, French, Geography, German, History, Food and Nuitrition, Information Technology, Latin, Music, Physical Education, Religious Studies, Spanish and Textiles. Non-examined Religious Studies, Physical Education, Information and Communication Technology and Thinking Skills complete the curriculum.

All girls follow a detailed course in study skills and learn how to use study time effectively. Careers Advice is offered to all girls in Year 11.
