Lower School
The first three years in Senior School, Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 are known as Lower School. Their form rooms are situated in a building known for historical reasons as The Manor. Girls in Lower School have access to a wide academic curriculum. In the first year the girls are taught in forms (maximum number of 24), but for practical subjects the girls are in smaller groups. In Year 8 the girls are placed in divisions for French and Mathematics and in Year 9 in Sciences.
The girls follow a pupil care programme suited to the needs of each individual year group, which encompasses Personal, Social and Health Education, as well as Citizenship. The Year 8 girls have a Citizens' Day in the Spring term and a residential trip to York. At the end of Year 9 the girls have a special three day course in Personal and Social Responsibilities.
A number of activities are planned specifically for the members of Lower School and theatre trips are particularly popular.
