Senior School - Drama Department

  • Drama at Northwood College has a very high profile.

  • It is taught as a separate curriculum subject and by drama specialists.

  • Girls have a double lesson of drama (1 hour 10 minutes a week in Year 7 and a single (35 minutes) in Years 8 & 9.

  • Drama is a very popular option at GCSE, AS and A level. Currently, there are 27 girls taking the subject at GCSE and 11 at AS Level.

  • There is a wide and varied programme of extra-curricular drama which includes: the Main School production, House Plays, the Lower School production, 4 drama clubs at lunchtimes, joint productions with Harrow School and John Lyon.

  • Theatre trips occur on a regular basis, especially for those studying GCSE Drama and above, on average three per term.

  • As well as acting, girls have the opportunity to learn about design skills such as sound and lighting, costume, make-up, props, masks, set design, puppetry, directing and stage management.

  • Recent productions have included: Lady Windermere’s Fan, Animal Farm, Daisy Pulls It Off, Pride and Prejudice, The Sound of Music, The Chrysalids and The Slipper and the Rose.

  • Workshops by Professional practitioners such as Trestle, Greasepaint and Creative Lighting are regularly organised.
