Design and Technology prepares pupils to participate in a world
of rapidly changing technologies. It builds problem solving and
team work. Our aim is to develop individuals who can think, create
and produce products that are well designed and made to a high
standard.
-
The subject encourages students to become autonomous and creative
problem solvers,
-
Students follow the design process, they are set design briefs,
and respond to them by developing a range of ideas and making products
and systems. They combine practical skills with an understanding
of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial
practices.
-
The evaluation of present and past products is encouraged, with
students reflecting on their uses and effects.
-
Students work in purpose built, well-resourced and attractive
specialist workshops opened in 1999.
-
During Key Stage 3, pupils learn to work with a range of materials,
which include food, textiles, wood and plastic.
-
Pupils are taught in groups of approximately 12, working as individuals
and as members of a team.
-
Food and Nutrition and Design & Technology: Textiles courses
are offered at both GCSE and AS/A2.
-
Weekly Food and Textiles clubs are offered at lunchtimes and
both are usually extremely popular.
